Heinrich Siepmann

born 1904 in Muelheim/Ruhr, Germany, belongs to the so called second generation of Constructivism.

As the classical Constructivism (Malewich, Mondrian) formulates the extreme positions motivated by the philosophy of life, the work of Siepmann moves inside these fixed limits. But therein he develops his very own language of painting, that after all is rooted in the german Art Informel, to which he contributed remarkable in a period of his work. Sensitivity and intellect, emotion and calculation are combined in such a way that Constuctivism and Painting obtain a new and very independant quality. As a foundig member of the group Young West 1948 in Recklinghausen, one of the origins of the german Informel, he perceived, processed and developed many influences of the period after the Second World War, but he always has followed the principle of order in his paintings. His emotion as a painter is controlled by a domineering order. Until his remarkable late period he kept this balance continuously on the highest level. The significant architecture and the shades of colours form a union full of tension.
